Digressions on unity [videorecording] / Shalom Gorewitz. [1990]

These four short works contemplate faith, love, despair, politics, and poetry. The first piece, A small jubilee, counters religious symbolism with visions of political upheaval and chaos. After the storm uses poetry by James Merrill, chants in praise of Allah, and an ancient Incan text to explore love and desire, both spiritual and physical. The end of television is an elegy to Lee Connor and Arnie Zane, two dancers who died of AIDS, as well as a pointed commentary on television and corporate culture. Finally, in Jerusalem road Gorewitz uses images and sounds of the ancient city to articulate the deep political and religious conflicts in modern Israel.
